Brown Mackie College
Brown Mackie College began as Kansas Wesleyan School of Business in 1892, until it was purchased by Perry Brown and A.B. Mackie in 1938 and renamed The Brown Mackie School of Business. It was destined to become part of a collection of education institutions gathered and operated by American Education Centers in 1993. In 2003, American Education Centers was bought by Education Management Corporation and the system of schools, which had retained their original names, was newly designated Brown Mackie College in 2004. Brown Mackie College has 22 locations in eleven states.
Brown Mackie College is licensed by all states where campuses are located and permitted to bestow associate's degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
Students must write an assessment test upon application to Brown Mackie College to determine if their reading, language and mathematics skills are appropriate for college courses. Admission staff assists new students in the admission process. Proof of high school graduation (or equivalency) is required.
Credits from accredited education institutions may be considered for transfer and application to Brown Mackie College programs.
Brown Mackie College has created a unique scheduling format. The college has a year-round formula without traditional breaks often found at other colleges. As well, students work exclusively on one course per month and, upon completion of that course, begin a new course for the following month.
Brown Mackie College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education program. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in various child education environments and development programs. The curriculum includes developmental practices, educational settings, and classroom management strategies.
All faculty members qualify according to accreditation guidelines, bearing degrees and/or professional experience. Instructors may be full-time or part-time. Most programs have a mix.
Students are responsible for applying for financial aid. Brown Mackie College provides application forms in enrollment packages. Financial aid representatives are available to assist with military financial aid, including determining possible sources and budgeting income.
