The state of Nevada has very specific requirements that it adheres to when it is offering teaching positions. They have a set of stipulations and standards that they will need met before they will allow you to be able to become a teacher in one of their classrooms. In order to become a teacher, you will need to take all required testing as well as fulfill all required coursework for the state.
Requirements
You will need to have a bachelor's degree with a focus on education. Each level of education that you are looking to teach in will have their own requirements to be certified for the specialty you are looking to teach. You will need to complete student teaching as well as be able to demonstrate all of the skills expected of a teacher.
Elementary Education
In order to teach elementary students you will need to have your bachelor's degree from an accredited school. The degree needs to have an education major and you will need to have at least 22 semester hours in the course of study you plan to teach.
Secondary English
To teach high school English you will need to have your bachelor's degree. You will also need a minimum of 22 semester hours in the field of English or language arts in order to be considered to teach this. The degree will need to be from an accredited four-year institution.
Secondary Math
The teaching requirements for secondary math are similar to the requirements that are in place for high school English. You will need to complete the requirements of a bachelor's degree with education as the major. You will also need to complete a minimum of 22 semester hours from the department of mathematics in order to teach the subject in high school.
Secondary History
To teach high school history in Nevada you will need to start with a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year school. This degree will need to have education as the major as well as having completed at least 22 semester hours of study in the field of history. Once you have fulfilled these minimum requirements and have passed all of the tests you will be able to apply to be a high school history teacher.
Secondary Science
In order to be able to teach high school science in Nevada, you will need to complete the bachelor's degree requirements in education to start. You will also be required to have a minimum of 22 semester hours in the sciences to be eligible to teach high school science.
Alternative Certification
An alternative method to becoming a teacher in Nevada without having a degree in education is possible. You will need to apply to the state and see what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to be able to teach in the state. The Nevada Department of Education will provide the requirements you will need to fulfill as well as any other stipulations that will be necessary to teach in the state.
