Elementary Education in New Mexico

Elementary education schools prepare students to become teachers in an elementary school classroom. Certification is required after the completion of at least a bachelor’s degree. Students may select from a variety of degrees including a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree. Students studying for their bachelor’s degree must complete an allotted amount of time in the classroom, teaching students firsthand under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher. State budget cuts have caused a disruption in job growth over the last several years but the field continues to remain stable. New prospects should remain strong over the next decade.
