ESL in British Columbia
ESL schools in British Columbia teach non-native English speaking students to speak English. ESL programs can be held at various places including community colleges, universities, community centers, churches, and online. Programs are non-degree bearing. Most students take ESL classes to become literate enough in English to obtain employment. Some students go on and enroll in college or GED courses. ESL schools teach English using a variety of learning methods including rote memorization, computers, and whole language. Most ESL classes have distinct levels that separate students based upon their skill level. Most programs do not follow the traditional academic calendar and have open enrollment policies.
