General Teaching in Michigan

General teaching schools in Michigan offer a wide range of degrees and certifications. Most Michigan schools offer bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. A typical bachelor’s degree takes four years to complete and a master’s requires an additional one to two years depending on the pace set by the school. Coursework includes training in and out of the classroom, in psychology, sociology, human development, educational leadership, and behavioral disorders. One year of student teaching is required, in which the student observes and takes an active role in teaching a classroom. Students may receive a certificate in addition to their degree in areas such as a foreign language, special education program or speech.
