Rasmussen College
The first classes at Ramussen College, founded by Walter Rasmussen in St. Paul, Minnesota, commenced in September, 1900. In 1945, Walter Nemitz purchased Rasmussen College and, in 1961, Walter Nemitz's sons, Wilbur and Robert acquired the college from their father. During the next 25 years, other colleges were founded under the Rasmussen College System. In 2004, Rasmussen College collaborated with Deltak edu, Inc. to further its online program development. Today, Rasmussen College has onsite campuses in Florida, North Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Rasmussen College in accredited by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Illinois Board of Higher Education, Commission for Independent Education (Florida), and State of Wisconsin Educational Approval Board, North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education.
Student support services include admissions staff. Classrooms sizes are between 15 to 25 students. Flexible scheduling is possible to accommodate students with outside responsibilities.
Ramussen College offers a Child Care Specialist Certificate program at campuses in Minnesota and Illinois. This program has been classified as a #4 (teacher qualifications) under Rule 3, reducing the number of hours of work experienced required substantially. This is not a degree program.
The Associate's degree in Business Management – Child Development Specialist is offered online and at campuses in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Graduates will be equipped to handle all aspects of owning a day care center and/or act as a director in day care centers, schools, and other facilities.
The Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education is available at Minnesota, Florida, and Illinois campuses and online. Students study child development, curriculum, health, safety and nutrition, family dynamics, and career development.
Graduates of the Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education can supplement their education with specializations in Child Development, Special Needs, Child and Family Studies, and English Language Learner. All of these specializations are offered at Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin campuses and online.
