Secondary Education in California

Secondary education schools prepare students for teaching positions at the middle and high school levels. Students learn teaching methods and gain proficiency in the subject matter they plan on teaching. Secondary teaching programs are similar to studying a double major. For example, a student who plans on teaching high school history will take a load of education courses as well as history courses. Secondary education schools are typically housed with a university or four-year college, and culminate with the student achieving teacher certification and a bachelor’s or master’s degree. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, secondary education jobs are expected to increase into 2018, as retirees make room for recent graduates.
