Secondary Education in Colorado

Secondary education schools offer students a four-year bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree. Secondary education prepares students to teach at the high school level. It is somewhat like a double major as students must be proficient in the subject they teach as well as what the best teaching methods are to convey the information. Students typically major in the subject they are going to teach, such as math, history, science, music, English, or physical education. A heavy load of content courses as well as educational courses teaches them how to develop lesson plans, assess student learning, and understand the education system. Secondary education majors also spend a semester in class teaching under the supervision of a certified teacher.
