Specialized Teaching in Alabama

Specialized teaching schools provide students with the knowledge and experience necessary to teach students with learning, cognitive, and physical challenges or disabilities. Students become equipped through coursework and hands-on teaching experience on how to help those facing difficulties and challenges in learning. Students must take general courses and pre-major classes prior to applying for the specialized teaching major offered at most Alabama schools. Upon acceptance, students are required to take such classes as human development, special education studies, behavior management, and behavioral assessment. Job growth and employment is expected to be favorable over the next decade due to retirement and funding opportunities.
