Specialized Teaching in New Jersey
Specialized teaching schools offer students a wide variety of specialized teaching programs. Specialty teaching degrees focus on either specific content, such as reading, writing, ESL, math and assessment, or student populations, including non-native English speakers, adult learners and students with disabilities. Programs are generally at the bachelor’s degree level and above. A bachelor’s degree takes approximately four-years to complete. Master’s degrees take one to three years. Students who complete these programs usually work within public education at the primary or secondary level. Jobs are expected to be in great supply as many teachers are planning on retiring within the next 5-10 years, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
