Specialized Teaching in New Mexico

Specialized teaching schools prepare students to become educators in highly specific subjects to unique populations of learners. Teachers in the specialized teaching program are often referred to in the public school system as ‘specialists’. Fields vary, but most specialists have the same mission in mind; to improve the cognitive learning and development of students. Specialized teaching programs may involve subject matters such as reading, writing, language arts, science, math, or literacy. Degree programs are typically at the four-year bachelor’s degree level, but some New Mexico schools offer a two-year master’s degree once the bachelor’s is completed.
